I try to render a scene with dof. In the mantra render node I've activated the depth of field funtion but how can I control the quality and the distance from where the effect starts?

On the camera:)

There are camera handles to visualize it too. Select your Camera, and in the viewport hit <enter> and the right-mouse-button on the handle and switch it to the Focus handle.
