Deep
Make Normals Unit Length : Resizes the incoming normals to a length of 1 I do not know how substantial to use this option hope some explain thx:)
Mcronin
You know, I want to know the answer to this question as well. According to every book I've read a "normal" by definition is a direction vector with a magnitude of 1 unit which decribes the facing direction of a primitive. I guess that option resizes the normals to whatever the current unit size is in your Houdini scene, but I don't think I've ever seen normals get out of whack in Houdini. they seem to maintain their length as the object scales. Maybe it's useful if you are writing shaders to know exactly how long a normal is in real world units or something... I don't know.
Marc
Hi guys Well if you 'normalise' a normal then it resets it back to a length of one. But because normals can do so many things in Houdini (ie used as a base velocity for particles etc.) you can scale them to any size you like. So you never really need to use that unless you've done something funky to your normals before and need to resize them. Cheers Marc
