Three questions about lights

Recommended Posts

Hi,

i just began to fool around with custom lights and i already have three questions:

is it possible to alter the place of a light in the illuminate loop, for example to set one to be the last one?

is it possible to pass custom parameters to the light from the illum-loop, for example the accumulated light on that point in the time of evaluation?

is it possible to write custom area lights in vex or that belongs to the domain of the hdk?

i think i had a fourth one but i forgot it :)

thanks

bmt

AFAIK no, not unless you want to post-process the IFD. The order seems to be fixed to the order in which the lights were created. I'd like to be wrong about this though!

You can export parameters from a light shader just as you would in a surface shader, then import them in an illuminance loop with the "limport" function or a light variable import vop.

Not sure about that, but you can instance lights to geometry to create a custom area light.

I haven't tried but does it work if you drag reorder the light objects in the network editor's list view when sorted by "user defined"?

I didnt think that worked, but it actually does if I close the scene and open it again after changing the order.
