Macha
Great image Hm, can you post snippets of the image with holes in? I'd like to see those too. You're rendering with Mantra, yes? Yes, they are rendered with Mantra. Strange that it produces the same artifacts as mr. I wonder if it is a fundamental problem with the underlying algorithm. There's a huge thread about it on xsibase.

I saw this in the Journal last night... are you using the blinn shading model in PBR? Houdini 10.0.415: Fixed a problem with the blinn() bsdf that could lead to nans in PBR renders using this lighting model.
Macha
Today's plant design consists of an inflorescence and a floret with a (spiral) phyllotactic pattern. I also made a DOP based flower penetration avoidance setup that can deal with arbitrarily shaped flowers (but it is slower that the POP version) Inflorescence.mov Edited October 1, 2009 by Macha
simonj
Here's a bigger version of my first plant attempt. It took me so long to render because I kept getting black holes in the render. I've seen that before in mental ray when using FG but I never found out what the reason for it is. Looks very nice! Could you perhaps tell me about the rendering/lighting setup you have going on there? I'm pretty much stuck in that area of Houdini, can't seem to get any tasty renders out. Anyway, keep it up! (I love these threads where you really can see someone progress and become better for each post )
