  1. Thank you! It works! Is this normal though? I mean you have to do this workaround on all occasions, or is it just me and I did something wrong to begin with?
  2. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. :3
  3. Hi everyone! I put together a simple scene with a pistol shooting a bullet. I made a nice smoke trail that the bullet leaves behind after exiting the pistol. It looks good and renders fine. After that I made a burst of fire at the end of the barrel which looks good with the dop import visualization, but it just doesn't render. Burst is between frame 20-30. It has smoke disabled. It has a preset VEX fire shader applied to it. When I enable smoke, the smoke renders fine, but still no fire. Can you help me solve this? Would be grateful! Thanks! (If you need, the pistol obj is here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/45946674/obj.rar ) Pistol_Smoke_001.hip

  5. Hey everyone! While I'm trying to learn Houdini, I am starting to understand the mindset, but still I keep stumbling over technical difficulties. This is a very simple scene: 1. I emit points from a box in the air 2. The points land and hit a ground box and get in the 'snowflake' group. 3. I am trying to use a SOP solver to copy a metaball on the snowflake group points, but the points just disappear and nothing happens. 4. I am also trying to achieve that whenever a point falls and lands and then makes a metaball, the other points can now fall on this metaball and create new metaballs from there, thus making a piling up / accumulating effect, like layering snow or wax. Thanks! Snow_001.hip
  6. Something isn't right in the fixed scene. Both flames have a velocity of 3, yet one of them pushes the other. It should meet in the center and push eachother to the side.
  7. Yes. So all in all you say that it is normal and expected to sim this few ice hails this slow?
  8. Well it wasn't today, did it this summer at a studio, but it was satisfying. As far as I can recall, yes, the stability. Like as if they can't find a rest position, everything mostly jittering, but it can be fixed.
  9. Yeah, I know, but it's strange, because with Modo I did this hailstorm effect and it was much faster. :\
  10. Maybe the solution is to do it with a particle system and just copy the hail shapes onto the points? But how do i make the shapes roll and behave like their size?
  11. I really don't know what to expect to be good as for simulation speed goes. What is the best solution to simulate hundreds of these hails falling on the ground? How would you do it?
  12. Well that's a bit faster, but still not a hail storm. Any ides on how to achieve a good few hundred instances with good speed? Or I'm dreaming...?
  13. First hundred frames takes about 20 seconds.... (after clearing cache and reseting simulation) Do you have a hip file lying around where you emit rigid bodies like this and you know it works so I can test it? Thanks! (Or could you tell me the best solution for making a hailstorm with irregularly shaped ice spheres that bounce around and hit eachother after they land, then after a small roll stop as if they landed on grass?)
  14. I have an i7-2700K CPU with 3,8GHz 16 GB DDR3 RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 video card. I don't think that's a bad PC but even after connecting a Box SOP to xform 3 it still slows down. Here is a screenshot of my performance monitor at frame 300:
  15. Trying to do this: http://forums.odforce.net/topic/21300-help-with-emitting-rigid-bodies/#entry127071 ((Can't open the hiplc files in it.)
