lukeiamyourfather
I remember in Maya it was possible to light a scene using geometry with the luminescence parameter of the shader and Final Gather enabled. Is this possible in Mantra? I've looked through the documentation and don't seem to find anything like it other than area lights with the basic shapes. This video shows an example of the lighting coming directly from geometry, though its in Blender 2.5 (same idea though). Thanks for the help. Cheers! roughsporty
Try the very good videos from Peter Quint on vimeo (http://vimeo.com/user2030228/videos). There are a bunch of tutorials concerning GI and PBR. After watching your question won't be longer a question.

This is the video that covers it specifically. http://vimeo.com/6226123 Thank you very much for the info about the Peter Quint videos! Seems kind of crazy that its not in the Houdini documents anywhere though. Cheers!
