chaitanyakapu
Hello everyone, I would like to create a digital asset in houdini for generating procedural roads.Could any one please tell me whether I could find any existing plug ins for the same in any other software. If any one has already done a digital asset on the same, could you please give some kind of resources in order to generate the roads procedurally. Are you aware of the cmiVFX tutorials ? (I didn't try them yet, but they look good) http://cmivfx.com/productpages/product.aspx?name=HOUDINI_ROAD_GENERATION_I http://cmivfx.com/productpages/product.aspx?name=HOUDINI_ROAD_GENERATION_II http://cmivfx.com/productpages/product.aspx?name=HOUDINI_ROAD_GENERATION_III If your looking for good inspiration about interactive/user friendly road creation I suggest you download cityscape Demo : http://pixelactive3d.com/Products/CityScape/ The file is just something I've tried, nothing fancing, no uv, just a test. Dennis
Hey, there's a 3 part tutorial on just that topic from cmivfx. I haven't done that particular tutorial so I cannot comment on the quality of it, but it seems quite elaborate. Procedural Road Generation I Procedural Road Generation II Procedural Road Generation III You should however do a search on this forums about cmivfx and about the format they are offering their content in (streaming only) to find out if it is something you want to spend money on. [EDIT] Seems like I wasn't the only one having the same idea at the same time [EDIT] Edited May 27, 2010 by Dennis

duke
Looking at the previews, i'm pretty sure the cmivfx videos don't cover intersections - they cover bridges, tunnels, and terrain interaction though. It would be good to get some clarification on this.
ben
You're right. They don't cover intersections. Too bad... cause it's really the hardest part to deal with...
michael
you may want to deal with intersections by building an otl that looks for road ends...
