  1. 1. Would you be interesting in having a Houdini LA drinking group

  2. 2. Which day of the week works best?

Ok I was curious as to what people would think of doing a once a month Houdini drinking group in LA. I don't want to say ...user group... aacchhhh, that sounds like too much like work already, since we luckily have SESI in Santa Monica, we can hold off on the educational stuff intentionally. Just a get together of people with a common love/hatred for software we use everyday. That way we can swear our love, or yeah, just swear at Houdini...

I was thinking we would pick a random bar close to one of the big companies, and then switch it up each month go to another spot, so DD in Venice one month, Sony in Culver the next, Ryhthm and Hues, Disney, Santa Monica(all those medium size shops), etc. It would just be people over flowing a bar one night night a week. Say the first Thursday of the month for discussion. We can either avoid, or intentionally have the meeting by companies during their heavy production months to give everyone an excuse to get out early or go back drunk to work. Make your producers happy.

Just think with our powers combined we can do ALCOHOL and HOUDINI and see if it is better together, like high ball Wednesday, huh??

Tell me what you think.

ah well, am I the only one who doesn't want to go drinking in a bar? And swearing (at houdini -tsk,tsk,tsk, the blasphemy!! )... well I guess I hear enough of that during the day :). If I would be in Santa Monica I would go surfing a lot I think. Maybe next year.

Maybe you need to follow the successful Vancouver model:

Peter and Leo organize these amazing bi-monthly theater events with a broad range of presentations. Like "How to draw a triangle", "An experiment in synaesthesia", "How to implement a Maya/Houdini Production pipeline", "[ Your dirty houdini trick goes here ]".

Audience is always packed.

After the event people spread out into the close-by bars.

Sounds like work, and I need to find a partner in crime... I wonder if it would be easier to dig a trench around Vancouver and ship it to la, or for me to get a job in Vancouver(hmmmm)... But that certainly is useful intel...

I don't think most Houdini user could handle that much sun surfing... I hear fresh air is toxic also, oh wait I'm in LA

We could try it in a pub as long as Liverpool or the red sox were playing, if not I would get kicked out too quickly.

Well if any one catches this post in the future and wants to try taking up an LA User Group of sorts sometime give me a shout. I'm going to wrap this concept up and save it for later. I need more local help to get the ball rolling. I'm willing to put the time in. The 3ds Max ones and others I've been too were a blast, so I know this could be even better. So... Yeah... Go Autodesk! Yeah I said it...
