Running Houdini Help Server

Recommended Posts

Hey,

Has anyone installed the Houdini Help Server locally or on a network share, so that it can be accessed without first launching Houdini, or so that if you restart Houdini after a crash, it still uses the same port number in the URL?

I'm using Houdini 11 on Mac OS X. Any help is appreciated.

See the help on how to use the help. It has a section about setting up a help server.

In my experience it has been very buggy and unreliable, though support has been working with us to improve it. If you don't need to customize the help and add your own pages then just use the help already online (linked above).

Hi,

Thanks for the info ...

See the help on how to use the help. It has a section about setting up a help server.

I checked this out - there seems to be a bit of scripting and path setup involved, etc. I know Houdini isn't for the technically afraid, but in general it seemed to be over my head and I was wondering if there was an easier way to set it up, or if anyone had any tips.

That would work perfectly, but one of the things I'm trying to retain is the ability to click on the "launch" or "load" links on certain help pages, and have the respective scene open up in Houdini. When I try to do this with the online help, or even via the local help server (left behind from a previous instance of Houdini that was closed or had crashed), it doesn't work. This is actually the primary reason why I wanted to install a standalone help server here. I don't plan on adding any custom pages or modifications.

Thanks again for the info, any further advice is greatly appreciated.

Best,

Matt
