Hello world
Hi all, I just wanted to know if there are any gaming studios in UK which uses Houdini?
thinkinmonkey
You could try a search here: CG Studio Map Cheers.
Darric
Good question! I'm not really sure, myself. The only studios I know that definitely use it for in-game assets are Naughty Dog, Valve and Guerilla Games. Blizzard's cinematic department use it, and I'm sure some of the studios that do game cinematics use it too, but I couldn't tell you which. Macha
I think Sega Japan used it a little, but that was some time ago...
ben
Here we just started to introduce it few month ago, and we're about the end of production... So It's just some simple stuff to help artists to save time. Street cables mainly. Grab electric poles obj from level ands process all cables. Also some terrains. Roads : flatten terrains according to roads shapes and stich geometry. Meshes projections, like to conform detailed terrain patches to rough terrain. SOP only for now. We're planning further to use it more for level building and willing to introduce it to SFX artists. In my opinion it seems there's a growing interest in houdini for games. All TDs I know here are quitte enthusiastic. Houdini gives freedom to both quick prototyping solutions that would eventually be implemented in game or in editor and opportunity to "develop process" that would require much work in maxScript (as I work for a Max house). BTW it could be a very interested thread (if we go further the UK scope). Edited February 24, 2012 by ben
Darric
Interesting! Is it common to other Ubisoft studios that you're aware of, or just Paris?
Darric
Can you share for what type of work Houdini is used ? At Naughty Dog we use it for simulating baked animations (fluids, environment destruction, cloth) and some VFX.
