I have been dealling with this for many years, well if you have a 3d application and need the information from another 3d package. First question what are you going to deal with Camaras, meshes , aniamtion . ect.. Second where it start and where it ends up. Third which program will deal with this better. The animations are almost always done in MAYA, Example if you have a character and want to to do something with just part of it are going to export the whole thing, maybe you don´t need to Where is the final render going to be , or are you going to mix renders and the comp it in nuke.
