the first reverse is just to correct input normals since they point inwards

divide with unshared edges creates polygons from all border edges of your geometry, sort of like caps

but such caps have normals always pointing in opposite direction as your geometry so you need to reverse them

then merge and fuse

Can't you use polycap like this?

The key to working with polycap is you need to select the edges first. You can also select all the edges and poly cap them all at once.

I will say Anim's workflow is better, but doesn't polycap also work the way I outlined it?
