chiess
Hi, Maybe it is a long shot but any advise would be helpful. What would be the best approach to create bursting splinters from a tree-branch? For example, an object hits a tree branch, that branch breaks appart and splinters burst away. Usually I am using voronoi fracture nodes for such breaking stuff, but I don't feel that is the right direction to go in this case. Splinters simply don't have that shape. Is there a way to control the voronoi shape? Should I go for a "replace geometry with instanced premade geo" method? Besides that, what approach should I take for breaking the branch? Model the breaking point myself or should I let it be created procedurally (which I would prefer - since the point of impact can be random)? If you can give me some advise in which direction I should investigate, that would be very helpful already. If you could also mention some specific nodes (there is always a node I never heard) or maybe tutorials I should look at, that would also be great. Thanks! Matt_K
Have a look at this topic - there's a link to a technique that should work for splintering: http://forums.odforce.net/index.php?/topic/17676-wood-fracture-techniques/page__hl__voronoi#entry107149 Matt. chiess
Thanks Matt_K, will look into it! I was thinking about just scaling a voronoi shatter, but I am not sure if that is an ideal approach... thinking about UV's etc. I will give it a try tonight though, thanks! kleer001
Yup, voronoi works just fine for splinters, I just did it my self a month or so ago for a shot of an exploding wooden chair. You just have to spend a litle time massaging you points.
