mightcouldb1
Just playing around with some 1440p @ 60fps. The structure is a Sponge fractal with variation applied randomly to each component. I have a couple of plans for this scene, but it is more of a benchmark for my new rig than anything. Download the original video from this link as vimeo doesn't like to stream at 60fps and quartered my resolution... https://vimeo.com/69209839 Any thoughts on 60fps vs 24fps? 1440p vs 1080p? I want to create the highest fidelity imagery that doesn't require excessive resources or software development. I think that 60fps is nice when you have a lot of detail. Gives you more information to decode the video in your mind.

mightcouldb1
A render of north america with displacement and color maps. The displacement was built from raw terrain data. I had to write some C code to get the file to read in photoshop then converted to rat

mightcouldb1
Thanks Pazuzu. It's all in the data I got from the NASA site. There is better data out there, SRTM 90m is free. It would be nice to get really high resolution data but its expensive for me.
slamfunk
These are awesome. What kind of workflow are you creating to get the data in to Houdini? Also for getting data from forecast.io would looking at something like this (http://cmivfx.com/store/501-Houdini+Python+Weather+Widget) help understand how to do that? mightcouldb1
Mainly python scripting. Nothing too crazy. The most complicated part was writing c code to convert binary files into images. That video may help you but honestly it's not too bad. Python already has function that converts json data into dictionaries and a library for loading URLs. My code was only about 100 lines to get the data and load it.
slamfunk
Cool thanks man! Will have to brush up on my python a little... Any suggestion for good resources?
mightcouldb1
Hehe, just use the houdini docs. There is plenty of info there for hython stuff. The python tutorial is also good on python.org If you need specific help there is stackoverflow or these forums.

mightcouldb1
Started a new personal project, hoping to have it complete in 2 months. I storyboarded it, 2 environments. This is the shed generator for building a mining town. Any general workflow tips from people that take shots from concept to completion? freaq
very nice! did you infer the structure from a simple model that creates the exterior or are you doing it the other way around?I'd love to see how you'd create the interior braces and structure of the house!
