abramov-cg
I have a smoke sim. I want to reduce velocity in the area inside of small box (like in pic). I want to have opportunity to fill this area with custom velocity. Thanks. Edited March 24, 2014 by abramov-cg
eetu
If you want to just replace the velocity in that area, I think you could just use the pump from the shelf tools, and change the velocity mixing mode to copy. (Source Volume -> Volume Operation -> Velocity -> Copy)
gui
you can use a mask field to do that... have you tried?
abramov-cg
Tried different ways to copy vel from my custom fields, tried to multiply this. But nothing works. In attachment scene with pump. If I set to copy - nothing works. Guilherme Casagrandi Ok. I'll try this way Pump_01.hip Edited March 25, 2014 by abramov-cg
abramov-cg
I don't understand how I can use mask field to control global velocity. From help: The mask can be used to modify forces and torques when attached to Force data. And I want to reduce vel in custom area, not for only one force Edited March 25, 2014 by abramov-cg
eetu
It's weird the pump solution doesn't work, I would've expected it to. Here is a handcrafted version: Pump_01_ee.hip
abramov-cg
Thanks man - this is amazing. Its works. It is very strange that we can't do this using gas calculate or gas linear combination. One more problem.. I want to do smooth transition between this velocities, but when we use two way switch we get sharp border.
eetu
As you can see from the file, I first tried using gas linear combination nodes, but for some reason it didn't quite work so I changed to using a Field VOP. To get a smooth transition, instead of the two way switch, use a Mix VOP, with the "pump" volume value as the mix bias.
abramov-cg
Eetu thanks again. It works exactly as I want
eetu
As you can see from the file, I first tried using gas linear combination nodes, but for some reason it didn't quite work so I changed to using a Field VOP. I just had to revisit this, with a little more attention to detail it works now This one just multiplies down the velocity in the pump area, but extending to an alpha blend should be just a couple of extra gas linear combinations. pump_02_ee.hip
abramov-cg
Eetu thanks again. Now it is really simple.. all controls by density.
