merlino
Hi, i'm using that config but I have some big problem with drivers ... using the additional drivers (any of them) H13 just crash creating a sphere with openGL 2.2 activated (with openGL 1 no problem, and 3.2 isn't there). I've installed the proprietary drivers and I'm using the openGL 3.2 but I encounter a lot of problems artifacts and can't access from remote. Acutally Ubuntu 12.04 was working pretty well ... so: it's better to go back to 12.04 or there's any way to solve this problem? Thanks! EDIT: if there's another good linux distro for AMD graphics cards .... welcome! Edited May 7, 2014 by merlino
malexander
I think you need to install the AMD drivers, sounds like you're using the MESA drivers. I'm not using Ubuntu anymore, so I may get this a little wrong, but you need to install the proprietary drivers using Ubuntu Menu > Administration > Driver Manager (or Hardware Drivers?). Pick the most recent AMD driver from the list. Houdini should behave after that.

merlino
I just solved the problem! (ok, someone else, I just found the solution ...) As a total newbie I started with a fresh install of ubuntu 14.04 and installed the video drivers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evqpassbyqA then the big problem was is the screen tearing in any Houdini OpenGL/AMD Catalyst combination. In this situation the flipbook was almost useless. And after a long search and a lot of testing I found the answer: http://askubuntu.com/a/456778/282841 Short answer: sudo apt-add-repository ppa:timo-jyrinki/ppasudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install libsdl1.2debian Credits to: Timo Jyrinki EDIT: the problem is back ... don't have any idea about the reason ... so, will make a try with Mint 16 w/Cinnamon :S If the problem persist I'll sell my video card EDIT2: I installed Mint 16 w/Cinnamon, installed last drivers from amd and now it's working! Thanks Mark! Edited May 24, 2014 by merlino
malexander
Good to hear! Linux & graphics drivers can be a dicey combination sometimes.
