MNKYplanet
Hi odForce, I am new here, I was wondering if a short film made with Houdini HD can be sent to festivals where the viewer is charged an entry fee but the animator doesn't receive a piece of the fee. That makes it a commercial use or no !
Skybar
As long as someone earns money from it I don't think it's okay. I mean, in that case Pixar for example could use Apprentice HD but not pay the one actually using the software. It's meant for learning, not creating real productions. quinton
I guess it's best to check the T&Cs. Sidefx only mentions that apprentice HD is meant for personal projects. As to the definition of "personal projects" I did not find. You can check with sidefx on your license usage by emailing them at apprentice@sidefx.com

MNKYplanet
Just called up Customer Service and they said as long as you are not selling your work or no money is being made, you can send your work to free festivals. Which is cool actually. I will buy HD version in future, this makes it worth it.
dynamoanders
Yeah, that was my impression too. Here is what the faq says; Q. What sort of projects can I use Houdini Apprentice HD for? A. As long as your work is not commercial in nature (i.e., you're not making money off it), you can use Houdini Apprentice HD. It's ideal for your personal projects, demo reels, community projects, etc.
