fragmentzero
I understand the benefits over group SOP but is Name SOP as versatile as Group? Any good examples in modeling context would be great. Thanks
JaydenDP
Can't really speak for modelling tasks, but I use it quite often to rename fields from DOPS if I want to use them in a different way in shading. Not really what you're asking I guess but there you go ;P Actually thats the only thing I've ever seen it used for so would also be interested in what other uses it has. dszs
the name sop is also useful when dealing with packed primitives. This tutorial by SESI actually shows some cool stuff: https://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2719&Itemid=
pbarua
In modelling context, both are the same. Only difference is that name sop gives you attribute which can be used in expressions. And name have only primitive and point class while group have edge too. Wherever there is group parameter in any sop, you can use both. Only difference is you put group name in there and for name you need to just add "@name=" before that.
