What are good uses of Name SOP?

I understand the benefits over group SOP but is Name SOP as versatile as Group?

Any good examples in modeling context would be great.

Can't really speak for modelling tasks, but I use it quite often to rename fields from DOPS if I want to use them in a different way in shading.

the name sop is also useful when dealing with packed primitives.

In modelling context, both are the same. Only difference is that name sop gives you attribute which can be used in expressions.  And name have only primitive and point class while group have edge too.

Wherever there is group parameter in any sop, you can use both. Only difference is you put group name in there and for name you need to just add "@name=" before that.
