Difference between particle width and pscale

The float "pscale" is a known Houdini/Mantra attribute generally used to determine the scale of instance geometry or in the Copy SOP and other SOPs that use template points, the scale of the copied geometry. "pscale" on instance points is used to determine the size of the instances when rendered in Mantra.

The float "width" attribute is a known Houdini/Mantra attribute generally used to describe the width of curves rendered as ribbons. The rendering of hair and fur uses width to determine the thickness of the hair ribbons when rendered in Mantra.

In the case of rendering of points, mantra will use either "pscale" or "width" to determine the size of rendering of points. The help link above correctly states that Mantra will first look in several places for a "width" attribute before it looks for a "pscale" attribute. Either or work and give you the same result in this case.

just be careful that since H14 mantra treats pscale as radius by default, if you want it to be diameter as before you have to check Treat Point Scale as Diamater Instead of Radius checkbox on Object/Render/Geometry tab
