Houdini 15 on Linux: Lots of expression stack errors in random places

Recommended Posts

I just set up a new computer, my first time running Linux (i.e. Mint). After installing Houdini 15 production build (licensed Apprentice first, later I also enabled Indie) even simple scenes produce lots of random errors. They appear while setting up nodes and before trying to render.

For example when I set up a new camera, its parameters "Aperture" and "Near Clipping" are tinted green and show "0". I was able to fix that by deleting channels. However after setting up a Mantra node, a Box node and some environment light, the renderer does not start and errors:

"Unable to evaluate expression (Expression stack error (/obj/ropnet1/mantra1/vm-cacheratio))."

Never had such a weird behaviour. Help is very much appreciated!

It seem you have localization turned on in your desktop environment..., like use German currency instead of default English, which means your application will use ' , ' instead of ' . ' for example, that is Houdini might be using 1,25 in any default expression, instead of 1.25. Price for using automagical Qt I suppose :(. You should change localization to English and delete Houdini directory at $HOME.

I think it can be considered as a bug, but I haven't submitted it yet.

hth,
