Wires, spring constraint restlength

Recommended Posts

I want to constraint the tips of a few hairs together in my wire sim, and right now I do that with the SBD Spring Constraint. However the restlength is zero so they all clump up to a single point, I would like to keep the initial distance between them.

Normally this would be easy with a constraint network, but I can't get that to work with wires (doesn't seem like it's supposed to work?) - hence why I am using a "standard" constraint.

Is it possible to set the restlength individually for each constraint created by my SBD Spring Constraint? Or make it keep the initial distance?

Hi Skybar, I'm sorry, I'm at work and cant test this, but the docs say you can use a constraint network with wire objects.

http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini15.0/nodes/dop/constraintnetwork

you need to set i@anchor_id to connect it to the correct points of the wires.

Ive got it to work before after a bit of playing around. The second hip file in this post contain wires and constraint networks (If I remember correctly).

Oh my, that seems to work great! The constraints didn't even show up for me when I tried, and now I'm not even sure what I really did before... I also didn't know about @anchor_id, even though I've read through everything multiple times that apparantly flew right by me. Anyway, thanks a lot for a very nice hipfile and your help!
