Mantra Vebose - Profile Vex Code Over Network

hey all

just a little question , maybe to sidefx AI system can fill me in on

when i render with verbose, vexprofiling

i see this line in the log,

Warning: Unable to profile VEX code over network renders

now thats an interesting statement,

because im network rendering, so what implications does it have on the render ?

btw, i do have custom sops and shops in my scene.

could someone elaborate on this statement

or perhaps is there a doc that gives explanaitons for all the errors?

I wrote a vex sop that changes the alpha of the surface relative to the original position of the surface, and this doesnt work when i render across the network.

and i saw that error in the log.

however the sop works perfectly locally. ;)

any ideas :)

It's only a warning as opposed to an error. All the warning is saying is that profiling won't be done. I assume you don't care anyhow so you could just turn off the profiling option.

There are actually a few things that don't work quite right when doing network rendering - I think generating shadowmaps is one of them, no?

hey

acutally it is bothering me ;)

nothing that cant be fixed, but it has certainly made me wonder about what the flickering is in my scene.

having different buckets go off to a different box and resulting in some picking up the vex and others not.

anyways, if thats the limitation, then thats cool, just a good thing too know

i ran into something aswell with shadow maps, just in terms of generating them onto other boxes,

the thing is, i dont know whats inherent limitation of the program or if its our IT guy whos doing a good job ;-)

anyways

it would be nice to know these things in the future.
