symek Posted August 16, 2016 Share Posted August 16, 2016 Yes, they are generalization of a concept of instances on the data structure level. When you pack a peace of geometry, you allow Houdini to instance it without duplicating it's internal data. You make a container, that could be instanced in space or rendered by mantra with different surface properties. Because they can be hierarchical (instances of an instances) and treated equally by Houdini, its viewport OpenGL renderer and Mantra, it's much more powerful feature. Any packed geometry, becomes a primitive, that requires a minimal storage and CPU time to process. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
