Guest Victor
Here's an older article from back when they were developing it. It was also mentioned in a VFX World article a few months ago about the fluid simulations. http://www.chaosgroup.com/news/20040604-01.html -Victor
lisux
Yes i know them, they were at siggraph two years ago,i think, showing their R&D stuff. Yes really impressive, they are from german so this is the reason, i think, that many people don;t know them, but seriously they are one of the best in terms of fire, fluids, etc .... The founder of the company is not a developer but his love for effects push him to enrole some developers in the proyect and voila they have their own outstanding software. Look at this: http://www.vfxworld.com/?atype=articles&id=2597
stu
Wow, the fluid stuff is terrific.
keltuzar
so is this like a seprate peice of software like real flow? Or does one need to develop a plugin? I am tempted to email em and ask them for a free student evaluation. This stuff does look really great
peship
If you check their web site you will see that they are actually selling this thing. they claim to have it working as plug-in for max/maya and if you really-really want you can buy it ( a deep pocket is required i believe ) To be honest i'm not that excited about the gas stuff, but the water splashes look simply awesome to me. I have the feeling that i know what they are doing - once the fluid density start dissapearing they are emitting particles from these voxel cells, the particles are inheriting velocity from the fluid properties and the software is generating geometry around them ( the same what realflow, glu3d and metaballs in Houdini are doing ), but in smarter/automatic way. ... maybe not. At least this approatch worked for me the last time i needed coolish splashes. For example - if velocity of given voxel cell changes its direction too mutch from step to step ( there is a collision event ) - emit particles. peship
mmm, i have an online page with some fluid stuff - http://petershipkov.com/development/afterburn/afterburn.htm - it is not exactly the splashes thing, but is more than nothing. and yes, at some point later i will spend time to add the watersplash example there, thanks for reminding me . deecue
nice stuff peship.. you really have some great work throughout your site.. seems like you were (maybe still are) a pretty heavy maya user.. curious to know what's it been like since you started using houdini more? still use maya predominately with houdini on the side? or has it been the other way around.. peship
thanks for the good words. heh, interesting question ... i think i love and hate both applications. For our good luck they are not overlapping their good and bad sides. What is not working well in maya is working well in houdini and vice versa. Best to know 'em all. P.S. I already "yelled" on Jeff and George what i really miss in Houdini, but i dont think they are listen me too mutch
