Deformed lines from deforming mesh

Recommended Posts

Hey There!

I was wondering if anyone could give me any suggestions on how to achieve a look like the image below. I was thinking the most straightforward way would be to use a noise on a grid, displace along normals, and then use the column lines to create the surface detail. However, I am running into an issue where the underlying column lines are just going straight even after the deformation. I am trying to get something closer to the flowing lines in the reference image, where the lines accentuate the underlying geometry.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Thank you so much, Hannes. That is so helpful. It's a very cool setup, using the for loop and points. I hadn't thought about doing it that way before!
