doc
Hi, I seem to be having a little trouble with my deeps shadows, for some reason it's making my object look super "spotty" (see image). I've tried playing with the Compression z-bias (values between -1 and 1) but that doesn't seem to help. I've attached and image and my hip file. Thanks in advance L shadow_issue_v1.hip
Jason
Try raising your Shadow Bias and/or turning on Z-Depth Motion Blur.
doc
Try raising your Shadow Bias and/or turning on Z-Depth Motion Blur. Yeah, already tried adjusting the Compression z-bias doesn't seem to help.
doc
Fixed the issue by upping the Z-depth samples. 6x6 seem to do the trick. L
Jason
Yeah, already tried adjusting the Compression z-bias doesn't seem to help. I'm talking about Shadow Bias, not Compression z-bias.
bandit
and it would be great,if someone give a clue how to get a shadow only pass on that.
Bernard
Hello Bandit, just studying your hip file a little bit... I have a few questions: what does the extension mean in the 'shadow.dshad' file ?(dshad) and what does 'exr' mean in the output picture and 'openexr' in the Image Device (Renderman ROP) ? Is it not needed in Houdini to create Renderman light shaders to render a scene? I hope it's not to many questions... many thanks, bern

Using a ShadowMatte Shader will provide you a shadow only (look in the Alpha channel, as the RGB is the color of the shadow - which is usually black)
