jiyoon
Hi! I don't know about Vops very well. I just made new Vops and tried to render but it didn't look like aurora. I made particle system for aurora borealis. Do you have any suggestions about any VEX for particle rendering. If you know, please let me know. jiyoon
Thanks! But I couldn't find information about VEX. My concern is how to make shader for natural looking aurora borealis using Vops.
plan9
hey there, you can find some info on VEX in $HFS/houdini/vex/html or $HFS/houdini/vop/html ...although, the VOP html isnt extensive, the VEX html should provide plenty. keep in mind VOPs is VEX, but in node form.... theres an aurora shader located here http://www.camf.com/shaderlib.html perhaps this can put you onto the right track? as an aside, you say that the aurora is already built as a particle system....could you possibly use compositing to achieve the effect? deep rasters in COPsV2 could be a big help... michael
check the documentation....the Scripting.pdf ...I think there is a walk through of writing a shader and compiling it and putting it where it needs to go
todd dufour
Go through the script writing tutorials in the help files. Do not give up on this. Some of the information in the pdf is simply outdate for Houdini 5.5. One specific example is that you no longer need to include the #include line in one of the files you need to write. Sorry but I am at work and can not look it up. Also pay close attention to the directory structure, it is not that difficult, but it is very important that it is set up correctly. Good luck.
