GlennimusPrime
Hi there, I'm building an ocean starting with the large ocean shelf preset. I only seem to get wave detail close to the camera. Further out toward the horizon I lose displacement detail. Should this be active displacement back there, or should I be seeing bump? Just a quick low quality render for now. The top half of the image seems to lose detail. The sky begins to reflect like a mirror. Note: Our studio is currently limited to Houdini 19.5.493 so I don't have access to the Ocean Procedural LOP. This setup is using the slightly older Karma Ocean LOP I am unable to attach a scene file due to work limitations, but happy to answer any questions. GlennimusPrime
It seems by default, even with the correct render geometry set on the Karma Ocean LOP, it still uses the proxy geo - which had more tessellation closer to camera, which explains the detail loss on the horizon. I unchecked use proxy geo and things seem better.

Atharv59
Hi, I'm working on creating an ocean starting with the large ocean shelf preset. I’m noticing that I only get wave detail close to the camera, while the displacement detail fades out toward the horizon. Should I be using active displacement for that distant area, or would it be better to use bump mapping? This is just a quick, low-quality render for now, but I’ve observed that the top half of the image loses detail, and the sky starts to reflect like a mirror. Any insights? I think I solved the same issue by increasing the Dicing Quality Scale in Karma Render Settings.
