That looks like, what Maya users call it, 'going back in history'. These days, imo, it's becoming obvious, that distructive editing (when you can't change previous steps back in history, not redoing the whole thing) is a serious limitation, so 'going procedural' in this or that way is 'a must' for the industry leading packages.
