cs00bren
hello there i bit of a question about how i could lay down a road. i'm making a generic engine in houdini to create landscapes. the only problem at the moment is how to create the roads. i'm importing a .tif file will the road layout and then applying it to the points on a grid. then i cookie it with a box to get the road in a flat (slittly raised) polygon. now heres the problem i could convert it to a nurb (horrible thought) and paste it on to the land scape but when i counvert to a nurb using convert sop. it conpletely changes the shape of the road. i've tryed doing the same thing but using a nurb to start off with but when i surfsect with the box i get the shape but i also get all the other points from the grid not good. i can get ride of them by converting to polygon then back to nurb surface but it creates so much rubbish artifacts in to the system. so any ideas i would prefere to use just plygons to keep the file size down any help would be very great fully as i have spent the last to nights banging my head together trying to work this out. cheers bren
edward
Not sure if I understood everything you described there but maybe look at using the Ray SOP to project your road onto the ground? There's also the Trace SOP which might be helpful in getting geometry out of your tiff file.
cs00bren
cheers the trace saop is really usefull the only thing is i need it to be a nurb so that i can than use the paste sop, as you can imagen converting from a polygon to a nurb the effect(still gives me nightmare). but cheers anyway i happyi now where it is. bren
