Visual Cortex Lab
London is your place i think. I live/work here since last year, I'm from Italy.. and the answer is yes. The only thing you need is a reel that proves you can do freelance.. drop me a mail if you need any contacts... I started as a freelance here, then moved to a company. Dont forget also that we're basically all freelance at the end of the day.. artists almost always works "for the project" ... Supervisors are people who companies tries to keep in da house. hope this helps. cheers
symek
Check also a odforce's job forum for a massage from Amsterdam based game company. You won't be very interested I think but I can tell you that in Poland there is a huge lack of 3d artists nowadays. Lot's of Poles left to England + the market is growing with a catastrophic speed. Since I have many connections in industry I got one call a week with questions about free 3d artists. They beg for them. Most of this work is in commercials and games though. Not too many movies/vfx (vfx work is done entirely by advertising facilities). Most of my friends and myself don't love too much this business so we stay in art/shorts as long as possible. Life will show the future. Salaries are smaller of course (1-3K euro/month in Warsaw) but life its also much cheaper. Two serious companies are very interested in Houdini this year. If I would go with one of them I have a promised vfx pipeline based on Houdini. I think also that H9 reception in other Euro's countries will grow up this year... cheers, sy. symek
I don't see why not. Not sure about law issues. You're Canadian? I don't think you'll have any problems, just check in embassy. I know many foreigners working here (though not in CG). As to conditions, I think better deal you have in games companies. There are few of them. Post-production grows up somehow slower in these terms. I think that in general you get similar deal as anywhere else in small-to-semi companies. PM me if you will have some plans cheers, sy.
