chunkified
I've set up 3Delight with Houdini and sorted all environment variables. Everything works besides VEX mode in which i get an error with 3Delight & the houdini display driver that comes with proto_install...? Any solutions are welcomed See below: -- Here is the error in question. Houdini 9.1.xxx win64 Windows XP 64bit (with all the latest Windows updates) proto_install --> houdini display driver 3Delight 7.0 This happens when I go to shader view in Vex mode. -- This is what I get in the Houdini Console: 3DL ERROR D2003: cannot open display driver 'C:/DOCUME~1/Nile/MYDOCU~1/houdini9.1/ri_shaders/d_houdini.dll' (system error: A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.) edward
I think I've mentioned this on the sidefx forum before. ri_display doesn't work on Windows 64-bit in H9.1. In H9.5 it should work though.

edward
Oh wait, this is assuming that 3Delight is 64-bit though... Otherwise, I think you would need to install the ri_display from the 32-bit build instead.
chunkified
yea it is 3Delight 64bit. Grrr tis annoying that it doesn't work with 9.1 because I spent ages trying to figure out why and thought it was me being dumb! :@ lol Edited June 13, 2008 by chunkified
chunkified
When I try to install the Renderman display driver for 3Delight it's telling me RMANTREE is undefined? and when I try to try and work on shaders... "renderdl.exe" crashes then it asks me for prman still. HOUDINI_DEFAULT_RIB_RENDERER is set to 3Delight6.5. Has anyone had the same or similar issue? JoshJ
just curious, hope this is not too off topic, but wondering what particularly you are choosing to use 3delight for instead of mantra? I haven't used a renderman renderer before, but I'm interested in the topic, though never had a need to seriously consider switching from mantra. Anyone else feel free to chime in if you have experience in renderman and mantra as well.
chunkified
just particular preference on this current project i'm working on. would usually do the whole thing in houdini but have had to use maya and rendered using 3delight in maya
