getting into rigging - help highly appreciated

I created a fresh Limb rig

could be used for arm and leg

from what i can tell right now it should work properly

again - every feedback highly appreciated

it can also do knee / elbow stretch for things like having the character kneeing or leaning on its elbow or something

this time i used just expressions

and minimal chops

i don't like expressions because they just look like a mess and are very hard to read

compared to chops or proper coding

These are pretty awesome example files, I learned a bit from them so far, thanks for posting them, and I look forward to seeing more!

created a finger rig

this should be multiplyable and placeable everywhere (essentially thats a whole hand)

also there is a setup controller (the edgy one is the root and the nulls are the other ones) that allow for resizing the finger rig

please give it a try and let me know what you think or if you see errors or whatever that helps me to improve

was able to check out calcas stuff

got a better spine now (especially for puttig it into the limbs with parenting and all that stuff)

check it out

added the basic version with out the ability to set a predifined length and switch stretch on and off

thats the limb i am working on

could be used for leg or arm

still one or two problems here and there

the kneeslide range in the video is setup to big - thats an easy fix

i need to hand that thing in for my final masters project in 20 days so not far off :-)

do you see antyhing in my files that could be done better or eats up too much processing power ?

what do you have to hand in?

a full rig?

a rigged character?

I'll try to have a closer look at your files and see if I can spot anything...

I'd suggest assembling all the bits into a full biped...before you go too far.

essentially i am trying to create a proportional rig

something that can be applied to any sort of proportion

essentially it is supposed to have the same functionality as the autorig

just that the setup thing is built in

will also rig two or three characters to show the ability of the setup

at least thats the plan

if i can do it is a different question

any tipps on enveloping ?

i have never done that in houdini

I'd do a bit of practicing...

a 3 bone chain and a poly tube

just to get the feel of it...and to see what SOPs Houdini puts down and how they work

the problem is though that i have a broken hirarchy

so i shomehow have to get all the different bones hirarchies to capture one mesh

also i have a few bones in there that should not capture the mesh because they are just helper objects for the rig behaviour

i can select all the bones that should capture

but the capture geo tool wants me to give it ONE hirarchy
