kensonuken
http://www.sfdm.scad.edu/faculty/mkesson/v...conversion.html when the code is same then it should give the same output... why do these things change ? is there anything globally defined differently? like certain constants? If the spec is different than others then how about other Illum functions like gloss or phong or oren give accurate results? but why is this happening? any specific reason? Jason
They do mention they know of a difference in their implementation - I wonder what that is. One thing that does stand out is calculation of dPds/t derivatives will be different and this affects filtered functions. http://www.sfdm.scad.edu/faculty/mkesson/v...conversion.htmlwhen the code is same then it should give the same output... why do these things change ? is there anything globally defined differently? like certain constants? Mario Marengo
The implementations of specular() are different (as in: different models altogether) between VEX and RSL. And they're both proprietary. To have them both look identical you'd have to use your own specular model.

Mario Marengo
thank you... apart from there is there any image quality difference between Renderman and Mantra? ( i mean according to your experience and observation ) Image quality is comparable -- that is to say: they are both good (in my experience). Jason
Image quality is comparable -- that is to say: they are both good (in my experience). I completely agree. Each has particular strengths but the overall quality of image is very comparable, IMHO.
