Fire Hydrant Leak

Hey guys,

I've been working on a piece involving a fire hydrant that initially leaks water. As the pressure builds up, the front cap comes flying off and water starts to gush out of the front. Below is what I have so far. Right now, I only have the leak from the right side. I plan to add more leaking areas before the cap explodes. Are there any suggestions or comments what I've done to this point? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Hey guys,

Please check out this updated version of the fire hydrant project. I'm almost done at this point. I've composited the hydrant to a photo background plate and have everything else to how I want it. Although, I feel like the water could be a little more transparent. If you have any suggestions or feedback, please give me your comments. I am open to any ideas to improve this project.

Thanks!

Yes, the water is too opaque (foamy) at this point. You should take your bg plate and project it onto the geometry so the water can reflect & refract. Also, at the bottom of the kerb, the water seems to be leaking through instead of flowing outwards along the road.

I like how you stained the ground geometry to make it look wet. Though I would expect it to be a bit more reflective (glossy looking).

Good job so far! Keep it up!

Cheers!

Hey marQiemarQ,

This is looking great! I agree with stevenong that the water is a little foamy right now, but the reflections/refractions should help to take care of that. Perhaps you could look into using an HDRI as well. Are you compositing in Houdini?

Thanks,

Matt
