ani
Hi everybody, Need some cg electric currents in my shot for my project. Any Ideas on how should i go about making an electric current in Houdini. My worry is the randomness of an electric current. Has anybody done a similar effect before?

itriix
another way to maybe go about this if you're unfamiliar with using l-systems would be to essentially use a NOISE VOP SOP which you could apply to a line for example. That will give you the basic idea for now... the more tricky part is getting the end points to crawl around, while keeping the noise to stay in control. if you explore this method, then maybe i can try and help
Andy Nicholas
This is how I've done it before: Scatter some points over the geometry. Copy some 2 point lines to them and move them around slowly. Use the Ray SOP on "Closest Surface" mode to snap the ends of the moving lines to the geometry. Subdivide the lines with noise, making sure you leave the end points where they are. SpencerL
Hi everybody, Need some cg electric currents in my shot for my project. Any Ideas on how should i go about making an electric current in Houdini. My worry is the randomness of an electric current. Has anybody done a similar effect before? Here is a simple setup that might give you some ideas. Its pretty straight forward, but let me know if you have any questions. electricCurrent_001sl.hip Edited August 28, 2009 by SpencerL
