Water Splash: My first Houdini simulation

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm new in the forum and about 3 weeks ago I started the study of Houdini because i want to make a VFX reel after about 3 year of generalist in Maya for hobby.

Now this is my first test of a water splash. My goal was to achieve a good mesh and simulation and I didn't care too much about the rendering :-)

Hope you'll like it.

Nice job, i would just like to ask you and other people posting expensive simulation tests to report sim/render times also to help put things in perspective.

Thanks!

Here's some statistics:

NUMBER OF PARTICLES: about 400.000

SIMULATION: about 6 hours

RENDERING: about 5 hours

The mesh is pretty dense, i've used a 0.1 step and filtering.

Bye,

Mirco

Look at the hscripting tutorials on sidefx website, as well as the Wedge ROP tutorial. I know in the hscripting they talk about the Wedge ROP and how its useful for fluid sims. In the hscripting tutorial they go over seed jitter and how you can use that with the wedge ROP. This might help out with the simulation time and the volume of the water. Render time might take the same amount of time or longer though. Looks great so offer!
