Role Review: We are looking to expand our development team dedicated to enhancing our Creature Effect, Crowds, Environment, and FX tools and workflow. We are looking for a highly proficient Technical Engineer to focus on the development and implementation of robust, high-performance, and domain-specific procedural toolsets using SideFX Houdini. This role requires strong technical leadership and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision alongside a Lead Software Engineer or Architect. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced production environment where priorities can shift quickly. What You’ll Be Doing: Design, develop, and implement scalable procedural systems and workflows within Houdini for various departments (FX, Creature, Crowds, Environments). Create, maintain, and optimize robust Houdini Digital Assets (OTLs), ensuring stability, ease of use, and adherence to production standards. Extend the core pipeline by developing, integrating, and supporting tools that manage data flow, asset publishing, and version control. Collaborate closely with artists (Creature, FX, Lighting) to gather requirements and troubleshoot technical issues, providing support for both in-house and commercial tools. Partner with engineers across other teams (Shading, Lighting, Rendering) to ensure seamless integration of procedural assets into the overall rendering and compositing pipeline. Document tools and workflows thoroughly for use by the wider artistic and engineering teams. Required Technical Experience & Skills: 3-5+ Years of professional experience in developing procedural workflows and tools in a VFX, Animation, or Game production environment. Demonstrated knowledge of the Houdini environment, including tool creation, optimization, and workflow techniques. Strong proficiency in Python and VEX for writing efficient, custom nodes, and tool wrappers. Proven experience developing and supporting production pipeline tools and asset delivery. Experience leveraging the Houdini API and other DCCs like Katana. Strong grasp of 3D math, linear algebra, and data structures as applied to geometry processing and simulation. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Capable of delivering on multiple competing priorities with little supervision. Preferred skills: Applies curiosity and judgment to identify broader or systemic issues and recommends creative approaches that address wider issues. Documented experience with desktop application development using PyQt/PySide to create custom user interfaces. Experience with C++ for high-performance plugin development. Experience with data science, machine learning, or complex simulation techniques (e.g., fluid dynamics, cloth) in a production context. Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Digital Media, or a related technical field. The anticipated base salary for this position is within the range of $100,000.00/yr - $120,000.00/yr CAD (up to $150K for Senior candidates). The final compensation package will be commensurate with the candidate's professional experience, technical interview performance, and specific alignment with our team's requirements . TRIXTER Film is currently looking for a VFX Pipeline Engineer / Developer to join our team as soon as possible. Long-term contract of minimum 1 year. Location: Munich, Germany. Responsibilities: • Collaborate in the Design, development and support of the production pipeline • Continuously improve the user experience and performance of our pipeline • Collaborate with other engineers to form a highly productive team • Ongoing research to recommend improvements to workflows in order to improve productivity or communication • Detect failures in the Pipeline, propose solutions, and communicate this changes to the development team • Thorough documentation of all development and updating as necessary Requirements: • Programming proficiency in C/C++, Python, Qt (PySide / PyQt). • Proficiency in developing for Linux. • Experience in assisting with architecture and designing pipelines for both off-the-shelf and custom packages. • In depth knowledge of source code management (Git) and maintaining large codebases • Strong knowledge developing for Maya (Houdini, Nuke is a plus) • Understanding principles of animation and VFX production pipelines. • Ability to prioritize production tasks in a frequently-changing environment • Ability to work self-reliable in diverse types of different projects • Excellent communication, collaboration and problem solving skills required • Good English language skills Although we're always happy to get to know international talents, due to the immediate need and short term nature of our current projects we are only able to consider applicants who are already eligible to work in Europe. Senior Media Systems Engineer - Digital Domain Vancouver Department: Media Systems Reports to: Chief Engineer Status: Exempt Classification: Full Time Purpose of the job: The Senior Media Systems Engineer assists the Chief Engineer in a variety of maintenance and help-desk tasks. The role requires interacting on a daily basis with artists and production staff to make sure that they are able to complete their own tasks with a minimum of down time or confusion. The successful candidate will work with display systems, video editing and archiving systems, as well as digital projection, and computer systems to accomplish these goals. An aptitude for electronics, displays and computers are essential. Experience in managing and maintaining cross site multi-location media system setups is also key. An outgoing, helpful manner will go a long way. Essential Functions/Responsibilities: • Monitor calibration, including desktop HP Dreamcolors and all Plasma/LED TVs • Verifying that all view station room equipment is working on a daily basis • Verifying the integrity of all conference room equipment on a daily basis • Maintain projection room equipment as required • Collaborate with Editorial staff to create Avid archives; restore jobs as requested by Vid-I/O and Editorial staff • Be the Admin for the Avid Unity: install and/or remove partitions as needed, set user permissions, etc. • Perform Avid upgrades or downgrades as needed, including adding/deleting users from each workstation • Be the point person for the conference rooms and view rooms, be responsible for user training where needed, escalate problems to the appropriate departments as needed. • Some wiring and assembling of audio and video equipment, as required. Qualifications: Education and/or Experience Required: • A specific degree is not required; however, an electronics-related degree would be useful. An Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school would be appropriate. • Ability to assemble and wire up devices is a big plus, as is the ability to make cables and assemble connectors. • Experience with computer software and operating systems, especially OSX and Linux, preferred • Prior experience with professional video and/audio systems is a plus • Prior experience with conference room systems (video presence) is a plus • Enthusiastic, helpful, willing to engage with users and help them solve problems is a big requirement Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands: • Office working environment. • Hours for this position are based on normal working hours but will require extra hours pending production needs. • Walking/bending/sitting.
