MENOZ
Ptex is a texture mapping system developed by Walt Disney Animation Studios for production-quality rendering. http://ptex.us/index.html
sibarrick
Very interesting stuff, thanks for the link. I hope this gets widely supported and extended to triangle meshes too.
Marc
I've been waiting for this. Great stuff. All we need now is a paint package that supports it . M
Netvudu
3D Coat supports it from their recent version 3.2. I guess the debate out there right now is: is this better than the new ZBrush poly paint, or not? At any rate 3D Coat is starting to look more and more attractive to my eyes. pclaes
Can't be sure but perhaps Mari supports it too. http://www.thefoundry.co.uk/pkg_overview.aspx?ui=3366FFA1-E59B-4772-9BB3-94F496491576

symek
It's an interesting business model to be a commercial development department for more and more studios: http://www.thefoundry.co.uk/articles/2010/07/20/98/the-foundry-gain-access-to-paint-3d-technology/ (DD, Weta, Sony, Disney, who's next?) If SESI could gain access to some of sims tools out there(unlikely)... wait, isn't ODE DOP solver from Sony? goldleaf
I like it, for the most part. Except their education license policy - for Nuke its $1700 for a student license. FXPHD is the cheapest way to use/learn Nuke for demo reel purposes and still be able to eat. All the same, it's good to see some of the studios' excellent tools released into the wild. Oh, and Mari doesn't support Ptex yet. They plan to get it in there soon, and with Disney Feature adopting Mari, I'm sure that will only expedite the whole process. Just little intrigued how relatively new company was able to impact industry so much. Aren't they partly owned by the same investors/producers who has bought DD? Maybe this is a reason why they built connections so quickly. Anyhow, great products they have there. Don't get close to Mari without decent nvidia, our Quadros fail or work miserably slow.
