eyevex
I have recently started a Houdini TD blog. Its a mix of things form my own Houdini related projects news to instructional posts, tutorials and downloads. I hope to post a couple of times a months if possible. I currently have 2 series of posts that are primarily instructional and related downloads including a python Houdini Takes wrapper and a script to configure the network editor as a floating maya-outliner-like pane If anyone is interested or would like to offer feedback. thanks http://www.eyevex.com

eyevex
Congratulations and well done! Nice, complete articles over there. Thanks Jason I was actually motivated to put it up after working with odforce people as well as the rendermania maintainer on my last job. Figured I talk about houdini tool building alot so why not post examples not help people get their chops (haaha so-to-speak) Hopefully it will be found useful. I am working on another post and HDA to be up within the next week or so. thanks for checking it out (|;-D>
eyevex
I am working on another post and HDA to be up within the next week or so. So, I guess I got a little carried away with these and it became easier to publish all four parts at on time. Anyhow .... For those interested, I just posted a new series of Houdini TD blogs on extending network box functionality. New downloads including shelf tools for netbox layout and merging in addition to added py mods and methods. http://www.eyevex.com (|;-D>

eyevex
Here I go again publishing 6 at once instead of spread out in a timely fashion. Sorry for the redundancy to those on the sidefx list. I just published a series of 6 blog entries on the subject of viewport transform matching in python HOM, including in-depth explanation, examples, and free script downloads. The subject has come up on forums and the listserve several times, so hope fully those hou.geeks() interested find it helpful to learn how it works and for those who don't -- feel free to just grab the script at www.eyevex.com Any feedback etc.. is always appreciated. thanks -Dan [eyevex] AIM/Y! eyevex www.eyevex.com www.dansportfolio.com
eyevex
Just posted a basic 2 part series on the viewport gradient as a config example. VERY basic and step by step -no code/scripting. There is no download, but if you just want the gradient effect, part 2 explains how while part one is more general config strategies and background. Happy CG'ing. feedback always appreciated- let me know how Im doing. -Dan [eyevex] AIM/Y! eyevex www.eyevex.com www.dansportfolio.com
malexander
The viewport gradient is new as of H12. In Light mode it's set to a very subtle gradient by default, and it uses a random texture to vary the gradient per pixel by +/-1 to eliminate mach banding. eyevex
Yup, I mention the subtle gradient on the ligtht viewport in the posts. But, thanks, that deos answer when that config option snuck in there... I hadnt remembered it previously. Although I did have one myself for 4 yrs through some trickery --but I mention all this in the posts. There will be some people that just want the prettier gradient and that fine, the idea is more of trying to help people learning some TD techniques that are getting their chops (pun! -- cant help myself), Alot of people helped me when i started out which was at a time there were no videos, or many turorials, nor any books, and no help system, just alot of pdf, many which were dated (Im sure you prob rmember), it was almost all us teaching each other-- how far we've come!
