Diego A Grimaldi
Hey guys, I've been asked to imitate this kind of effect I am still fairly new to Houdini and I've been trying to dig around the forum for a way to do this. Some sort of ghost fx that emits fluid, therefore I was thinking of emitting fluid from an object and shade the volume with texture..Is that possible in Houdini? If you know of any other ways to achieve this kind of fx I would gladly give them a shot! Is there a way to add a texture to a volume? I've been able to transfer color to fluids, but I can't transfer UVs info to fluids... Any help please?
lukeiamyourfather
Lights can project images or depending on the shots you could do it in compositing.
ikarus
Advect some particles through a fluid sim and project the texture onto those perhaps.
Diego A Grimaldi
How would I go about doing that Ikarus? Luke? I'm really not that advanced with Houdini A scene file would def help Thank you guys! Edited September 3, 2013 by nailon
lukeiamyourfather
See the "Projection Map" parameter on the light. http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini12.5/nodes/obj/hlight#id393465 If you do it through compositing then use the volume render as a mask for another image. Diego A Grimaldi
Thank Luke, but that doesn't seem like it would be very accurate, would it? I've tested it out the way you said, and I don't see how I could achieve that type of effect...It sorta work, but it seems like the texture would swim through the sim....I'll keep it in mind though, thanks Unless you have something else in mind.. Guest tar
best approach is like everyone has said. use animated geo as an emitter and comp the footage in. Nothing too tricky.
Diego A Grimaldi
I'll probably advect particles from fluids and texture the particles, like Ikarus suggested...It seems like a good approach...And I might mix it with the lighting projection map setup... Thanks a lot!
