mangi
Look into the Houdini Preferences : It seems like your computer GL version is not correct for the version you have installed. What are your graphic specs & version you are using.

zarti
not sure if this works , but try to rebuild SVGIcons.cache : - close houdini . - delete both files found on "user/MyDocs/houdiniversion/config/Icons" . - open houdini . .cheers
malexander
It could be that it's using the Intel HD graphics instead of the AMD graphics. You can verify this by selecting Help > About Houdini (last menu item if it's not rendering menu text correctly), then clicking the "Save" button (it's the left button at the bottom of the dialog). That'll save a Houdini_Info.txt file to your $HIP dir. If the OpenGL Vendor is Intel instead of AMD, it's not properly switching from the IGP to the AMD mobile graphics. Unfortunately I'm not really sure how to force an application to run with the AMD graphics, perhaps there is something in the Catalyst control center. You could also try updating the driver(s), if your laptop manufacturer has a new version. If you absolutely can't get it switching to AMD, then you can set the environment variable HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE to 1 and limp along in software mode.
