Jason
Or better yet; get him to support RIB
3__
Ideally it should remain a fast, high-quality, low-cost option for smaller outfits or individuals. (mention 'rib' and I think of legions of wranglers, specialist TDs and thier handlers all sucking the life out of an otherwise straightforward project)

Jason
But really, every renderer has scene description format of some sort - just with some its binary and closed to the outside world. A good interface is all you need to close the gap. Look at mental-ray support in Maya and XSI - seldom do you need to know about the intermediate file format. Look at IFD format and Mantra renders from Houdini- you may never need to open an IFD but you CAN if you need to. Having no way to massage the translated data really will limit it's penetration into large facilities, if you ask me. Cheers, Jason
3__
you may never need to open an IFD but you CAN if you need to. I'm sure they'd make an editable option if enough people made a strong, practical case for it. -cpb

MG
V-Ray for Houdini (perhaps a V-Ray ROP)? That'd be rather interesting, to say the least!
