abvfx
My reaction. Might be a good time to look at upgrading the forums (searching has always been cumbersome to say the least). I wouldn't be surprised if there is now more traffic given XSI demise as well. Edited August 5, 2014 by abvfx
malexander
It's being looked into. Several recent security changes haven't had much of an effect on the spam intrusion. It's gotten so bad that my Android tablet asks me if I want to translate the page into Russian Edit: The General Discussion forum has been removed for now. Maybe it should be renamed so that spammers have no justification for posting there. Edit 2: Posting to the public forums has now been temporarily disabled. You can still read posts on these forums, though.

Guest tar
Might be a good time to look at upgrading the forums (searching has always been cumbersome to say the least). It would be excellent to add a Google quality searching system. It is possible to use the current one with a careful combination of wildcards and a judicious use of 'Search for all terms' option! edward
It's not for the lack of want that the forums haven't been upgraded. Unfortunately as it turns out, the forum is tightly coupled to the content management system (CMS) that's used by the website as a whole. So from I've gathered, upgrading the forum actually requires upgrading the entire website, a considerable and substantial effort. It doesn't help that the CMS project being used was last released in 2008.
Guest tar
Interestingly the Foundry have been going through forum upgrades too, combining Luxology and Foundry products and users. It's taken at least one year and whilst surveys are being carried out nothing on the surface has really has happened yet for the original Foundry users! abvfx
Hey don't blame us On other news, have you guys seen this? Hehe, its all your fault. It would be excellent to add a Google quality searching system. It is possible to use the current one with a careful combination of wildcards and a judicious use of 'Search for all terms' option! I would love this. I use Google anyway to search SESI with the "site://sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172" and then whatever keyword, but it still searches the entire site pretty much. So from I've gathered, upgrading the forum actually requires upgrading the entire website, a considerable and substantial effort. It doesn't help that the CMS project being used was last released in 2008. I would happily vote for a new site and forums. Keeping the old one as legacy. But i have no idea how that would affect the CMS you talk about. Can they not keep the CMS they currently use, lock everything else and have a new site/forums? Sound like it would be easier than trying to upgrade everything without introducing a ton of bugs. There is a ton of useful content on the forums so no matter what they shouldn't just be discarded. Guest tar
A modern redesigned Sesi forum could also have new topic areas too: GameDev Rendering Rant Fx Modelling Noob News
abvfx
Animation always being left out. I don't know of many communities with a rant forum. Could be disastrous. Edited August 6, 2014 by abvfx
Guest tar
Good call for Animation- Updated below, the beauty of 'Rant' is if one can ignore forums then crap stays there. Mods could also move posts. Rant is more a 'speak your mind, tell Sesi what sux about Houdini and could be improved.
