houdini shading

The Lighting Model VOP node is older and doesn't have many features but can be handy for creating simple shaders. The Surface Model VOP node is newer and is more flexible and has many more features like subsurface scattering and refraction. While it's possible to create shaders with subsurface scattering and refraction from scratch why reinvent the wheel when you can just use the Surface Model VOP node.
