macj89
Hello guys! I am having a super weird issue. When I started learning houdini like 4 or 5 months ago, I was just focused on learning effects, the way that houdini thinks etc.... but I totally forgot about how I will put my shots in my reel. Now I am able to do some cool effects (not very pro ones, but I am a Junior just starting), but my rendering and my camera movements are very very sad, so the effect loose a ton of originality and interest. I mean, if you make a growing tree effect with a static camera showing the full effect is very boring, but if you put a close up camera with 3 or 4 different shots with a good render it becomes really awesome. The thing is.... does anyone knows any kind of tip, tutorial, camera setup, course or whatever to learn more about camera movement to make it more awesome, shot composition, etc....? Sorry for my English, I am not a native and sometimes is very hard to say what you really want to say, I hope you got it because you are all very wise people (come on, you know how to Houdini! hahah) Thank you in advance guys! Atom
Also check out basic photography framing rules such as the rule of thirds. There are others rules at the bottom of the page as well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_thirds When constructing your demo reel always cut on action, don't let the camera come to a stop. This is mainly an eye candy fast paced demo reel kind of rule. Hollywood Camera Moves is a nice series on how to frame characters, mainly for dialog based scenes but basic camera move rules and framing are covered as well. Netvudu
Personally, I don't even touch a single polygon if I don't have a camera shot already unless I'm prototpying a tool or building a setup for several shots. When working on any FX shot for a demo reel, start with an animatic, just like any studio does. Until your shots look proper and nice with dummy geometry, don't start working on the shot.

If you can camera track, then film object like cars, animals, still life with your phone and camera track. The camera-person is an actor, you dance with your subjects and are intimate with them. That's why most people can't film, they are afraid to dance
