ISUther
Hello, When i started to learn 3D i also discovered soo many different rendering engines that i get confused. So i decided to ask what is in your opinnion good rendering engines for houdini. Is the Mantra best? Or can there be such thign as best? May be one engine is good for one thing and one engine good for another? What i am searching for is production quality rendering engines Please list here in your opinnion topp 4 engines that work with houdini or if not working directly in houdini you can interact with engine with houdini in order to bring in animation from houdini to engine. eetu
I'd say it's best to stick with Mantra, at least until you are certain you actually need a separate additional rendering engine. Mantra is awesome.
davpe
Mantra is great. It has the best integration with Houdini (naturally) and offers the most advanced shading networks. Some people favor Arnold for its simplicity, but you have to pay for it and it doesn't really offer anything more than Mantra. Renderman may be an interesting option, haven't tried it though. Truth is, though, it is always good to have an access to more rendering engines if you are doing some serious production. Sometimes you simply run into a project where the renderer you typically use may not be great for any reason. Then it is good to have a strong alternative.
