Dual Boot and licensing <moved from OS>

Recommended Posts

Hi

Currently running Houdini Indie in Windows 10 but considering going to a dual boot system with Linux.

Since SESI doesn't officially support this I want to make sure I don't encounter any strange license server issues when trying to install and license Houdini twice on the same machine.

Can anyone who has done this offer any tips or things to be aware of?

Someone suggested the challenge is to setup both installs in such a way that they have the same host id.

In the documentation it mentions the Linux License server is tied to the MAC address.

So doesn't this mean that no extra work is necessary? As far as the License server is concerned there is only a single install(machine)

To be safe just return your license on the Windows 10 side before you boot over to Linux and acquire it for the first time. You might want to keep the Linux machine name the same as well. If you are running fine on Windows 10 machine named "my_machine" then build your Linux system with the same name. Or change the machine name to match the other name before you attempt to acquire a license for the first time.

I believe the Indie License allows you to transfer your license to a new machine twice a year. So this might count as one of those transfers. I don't think you want to switch back and forth between OSs and Houdini on a day-to-day basis, however.
