Atom
I am having some problems getting polyextrude to produce any useful topology. Whether I extrude positive or negative the close corner of the letter H causes the green lines to crossover each other. When this happens I can not convert the result into a watertight VDB. Is there some modeler trick to prevent the extrude crossover? Edited January 22, 2018 by Atom
Noobini
must be your normals...(at the corners, I guess it's not at 45deg hence cross over) Here I'm using the 1st extrude to 'emulate' your path/skin, then the 2nd extrude works fine at the corners... (have you tried sticking a fuse in after skin ?) Edited January 22, 2018 by Noobini
Atom
Ah, it is your lack of resample. I was resampling the font to get better topology when skinning. Edited January 22, 2018 by Atom
Noobini
well the 2nd extrude is outwards (the 1st is coz I can't be bothered to do a path) Edited January 22, 2018 by Noobini
Noobini
it would be the resample, if you disable your resample (I'm betting you have one)...do the extrude....then maybe do resample at a later stage ?
Atom
Thanks for the double polyextrude tip. That does work well when you supply a curve. I linked the backbone curve point count directly to the 1st polyextrude divisions with an expression. This way if I deform the input curve the extrude will follow. I don't have to resample now because the initial line point count is the resample along the length. Edited January 22, 2018 by Atom
Noobini
here...if I enable resample, I get same artifacts as you..
